Hi, I'm Robyn.

I was a financial advisor for over a decade and I struggled at the beginning…and quite a bit in the middle… and then a little at the end (which was really just a new beginning…)

Here’s my story. Maybe it resonates with you.

IN THE BEGINNING

Hi, I’m Robyn Crane.

I was a financial advisor for over a decade and I struggled at the beginning…and quite a bit in the middle… and then a little at the end (which was really just a new beginning…)

Here’s my story. Maybe it resonates with you.

At age 29,
I became an advisor by accident. I was looking for a job and got an interview at a financial firm. I had no desire to be a financial advisor. I thought advisors were greedy, manipulative and mostly just cared about making money. 

I took the interview for practice, since I never had had a “real” job.

That one decision changed my life…forever.

I made $100K & thought
I had made it!

I moved to the next interview, excited to have the opportunity to CHANGE PEOPLE’S LIVES!

I got offered the job and after 3 weeks of studying rigorously and taking a ton of exams, “POOF,” I was a financial advisor. 

Passing the exams didn’t impress my friends and family much. 

You see, I had been a singer-songwriter and for some reason that “prerequisite” did not get my warm market throwing millions my way.

So, I did everything my supervisors and company told me to do to be instantly successful.

Make my list of 100. Book appointments. Network. (Try) to build relationships with COIs.

Needless to say, it didn’t end as promised.

I ended the year making $20,000, not $100,000 like they said would be so easy.

After two years of this, I took a big risk. I could only handle struggling for so long, especially since I felt like a complete fraud as I went further and further into debt to keep my business alive.

The big risk was increasing my debt even more to hire a business coach.

The short version is…it worked.

I made $100K that next year and thought “I had made it.”

IN THE MIDDLE

Even after years of running a “successful” 6-figure financial practice, I was still worried about where my next client would come from.

I felt like I had no control of how much AUM I could bring in, nor how many long nights or weekends I’d have to work in order to get enough clients to sustain the business.

I may have been perceived as “having it all together,” but I did not.

As Sophia from Golden Girls used to say…

It was my 8th year as a financial advisor. I had been making 6-figures and had gotten comfortable.

I had a decent amount of AUM giving me recurring revenue every quarter, and got referrals here and there, but months went by without getting new clients…and I started to freak out.

Luckily, the market was going up, so I wasn’t losing assets, but still the AUM wasn’t enough.

I felt like I had no control over my

By the end of the year, I had only gotten ONE new client, making me ONLY $500 that year in new business. My AUM helped, but without new revenue from new clients, I wasn’t making enough to support my current lifestyle and had more than my share of debt.  (Talk about imposter syndrome!)

seconds change everything.

My husband and I got desperate and started renting out our house on Airbnb—not a rental property, our house…the house we lived in AND both worked in.

We made some money, but there was a HUGE cost.

I was distracted and wasn’t getting new clients and that had become the norm.

What brought me to this low point after having a “solid” 6-figure business, was a lack of clarity on how to capture ideal clients.

I lost confidence. I wasn’t congruent with the “fact-finding” sales process that I was taught.

I felt out of alignment with my values and didn’t want to be “pushy” or “salesy,” so I gave prospects time to “think about it,” and told them to “get back to me when they were ready,” which didn’t help me and definitely didn’t help them either.

When I finally realized this, I started putting together systems to consistently attract and convert ideal prospects, which came from years of knowledge and tens of thousands of dollars I had invested to grow myself and my business.

I rehired my coach, (who I fired when I had gotten “comfortable”) and re-invested in marketing which led me to hitting $200K the following year because of it. I was back.

I didn’t get to my first $100K and then $200K by following the traditional financial industry model. I did it unconventionally. I added money coaching to my practice, did a lot of talks and built a brand around something called “Money Parenting,” which is how to raise financially responsible kids by leading by example.

Nothing about it was traditional. Looking back, I realized that I grew my business in a way that I now call: “The Woman’s Way.”

 

I had to be totally aligned with how I got clients, including the marketing and sales processes.

Then I had to be honest with myself about what I was good at and what I wanted.

I started to work with entrepreneurs at one stage and taught sales (as an OBA), and realized I was actually better at helping people make money than I was at helping people grow money.

I felt obligated to help my clients, but understood that I was hurting them by not being true to myself and my talents.

Plus, market fluctuations (and clients not liking me because of it) was too stressful for me.

In 2015, I sold my practice and decided to focus all my attention on helping female entrepreneurs grow their businesses.

In February, 2016, we launched our FEMM program (female empowered money makers) which soon became a business growth program for female financial professionals, and that brings me to where we are today.

I am on a MISSION to increase the footprint of women in the financial industry to 50% and it all starts with YOU being successful, so you stay in the industry and inspire other women to be part of it.

Our mission is to increase the footprint of women in the financial industry from 24% to 50%, so it’s no longer male-dominated. We advocate for these women to be seen, heard, and given a voice. With more females in financial services, more women overall will get the help they need with their money so they can create wealth and feel more empowered. This will help break the generational pattern of women not understanding money and prevent them from getting taken advantage of. It will also have a ripple effect on their children and future generations. Our vision is for women to be seen as a partner or the lead decision maker in finances, and we believe more support from more women in the industry will get them there. Together, we will help empower women with their money and contribute more to the world.
